Dedicated support, wherever you are

Our military student services staff will assist you with the application, advise you about military benefits and help you identify other sources of funding for your college education. We are your guides through the entire process, whether you are in Minneapolis or Afghanistan.

Scholarships just for military students

We have three scholarship programs that are designed exclusively for military students, including dependents. When we meet with you, whether in person or through e-mail, we will help you determine whether you are eligible for these sources of financial aid.

  • Military Service Scholarship. This scholarship is for seriously injured military personnel who fought in Iraq or Afghanistan and who participate in the Department of Defense’s Seriously Injured Joint Operations Center. Families are also eligible to apply for this scholarship. Depending on the degree program in which the student enrolls, the scholarship pays from $2500 to $5000.
  • Military Advantage Scholarship. This scholarship provides a 10% discount on tuition and books and is available to the following military students:
    • Active duty military
    • Active reserves/National Guard members
    • Honorably discharged veterans
    • Spouses/dependents of the above
  • Purple Heart Scholarship. Service members and veterans wounded during all Gulf Wars are eligible for the Purple Heart Scholarship. Eligibility extends to spouses and dependents of service members killed in action. The scholarship provides an amount equal to tuition and fees remaining after federal, state, military and VA benefits are deducted.
  • Military Active Duty Scholarship. This scholarship is intended for active duty service members in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Drilling Reserve/National Guard.  Eligible students will receive a scholarship for the amount equal to the difference between the current tuition amount and $250.  Other restrictions may apply.

VA certification

GU/MSB is authorized to certify students who qualify for the Montgomery GI Bill, Active Duty/Selected Reserves, and Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program. It can also certify those who qualify for VA Vocational Rehabilitation.

College credit for your service

Our college offers credit for prior learning and work experience, including military experience. This allows you to complete your degree and reach your educational and personal goals more quickly.
